Commissions

Marc Vyvyan-Jones creates artwork for all shapes and sizes of project: from multiple image collaborations with arts organisations, to promotional and celebratory pictures for charities and businesses, and special occasion commissions for individuals (weddings, retirements, births and baptisms...). Story maps are a speciality.

A map of the Benefice of Wiveliscombe and the Hills, commissioned on the retirement of the Rector. Part of the job description was a requirement to be able to reverse a car competently as benefice is full of gloriously steep hills and narrow lanes - so there are lots of pictures on the map of the rector (and his dog) driving from church to church. The map is framed with pictures of the saints to whom the churches in the benefice are dedicated. The bible references are to passages which indicate the character of each parish, or something about the rector's particular experiences at that church.

A map of the West Country showing the travels and adventures of the Twinners of Le Lion d'Angers and Wiveliscombe over the decades, included in a commemorative book presented to the French visitors. Working in black ink with a dip pen, and using a brush to create a wash is a satisfying alternative to using colour.

Marc enjoys collaborating with Ensemble Cymru who specialise in bringing music to children, working in the Welsh language. Marc worked with them on the first Welsh version of Peter and the Wolf: Pedr a'r Blaidd, which was narrated by Rhys Ifans. Marc's artwork was projected on a large screen behind the musicians, adding to the enjoyment of the audience, and helping Welsh learners to follow the story. It was performed across Wales from Venue Cymru in Llandudno to St David's Hall in Cardiff. The picture of the inside of Grandfather's cottage opened the story.

Another of Marc's images for Ensemble Cymru's Pedr a'r Blaidd , set in a west Wales landscape, rather than Russia. The distant rock formation shaped like a wolf really does exist, near Cas Blaidd/Wolfscastle in Pembrokeshire.
